GAUTENG – A man and his wife were arrested last Friday by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Johannesburg for possession of suspected stolen vehicles, unlicensed firearms, ammunition and drugs.
“The investigation team acted swiftly on intelligence received regarding suspicious criminal safe house in Ridgeway, south of Johannesburg,” said Hawks Spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.
On arrival at the positively identified premises, police found seven vehicles reported to have been hijacked and stolen in Gauteng, two unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as mandrax tablets.
A female suspect, Palesa Ellen Buthelezi (45) who could not account for the seized items, was arrested and charged.
“During Buthelezi’s court appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday the investigation team pounced on her 49 year old husband and apprehended him,” added Captain Mulamu.
Buthelezi was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 11 June 2021 for formal bail application and further investigation while her husband is expected to appear in the same court today.
