Pretoria – The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature said on Wednesday that it learnt with shock the passing on of music sensation Gawulezakhe Mbili popularly known as Sphuzo Sabantwana, Nontembeko Boyce, Speaker For KwaZulu-Natal Legislature said.
“Mbili stole the hearts of many with his impressive singing skills. He was a living proof that it is never too late to follow your dreams,” she said.
Paying her tribute, Nontembeko Boyce said the passing on of Sphuzo comes at a difficult time for all South Africans as we observe the regulations of lockdown and many cannot physically go to the Mbili residence especially his fans to pay their last respect.
“I would like to express our great sadness on behalf of the Legislature. Our sincere and deepest condolences go out to the Mbili family, His fans, the Arts and Culture Industry and the people of KwaZulu-Natal. We pray for comfort at this time of bereavement,” said Boyce.
“I am sad that he is gone, in fact am heartbroken but I thank him for the lesson he taught me, important lessons. He taught me the importance of time, he taught me the importance of living your life regardless of any adversities you meet in life, he taught me the importance of giving however little you have and give without any expectation. He may be gone but his wife is left with shelter. Thank you for your music and for the indelible mark you made in my heart. May your wonderful soul find eternal peace,” Boyce added.
The 65-year-old Guava Juice Hitmaker chose to follow his dreams despite his age.
She reiterated that, “We had anticipated for him to become very successful. His charisma, guitar and singing skills were highly rated by many.”
