JOHANNESBURG -The ANC Caucus in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Wednesday rejected the motion of no confidence on Premier David Makhura by the DA.
The office of the chief whip, Cde Mzi Khumalo said they have confidence over the leadership of Premier Makhura as the head of Gauteng Provincial Government as he has shown a lot of commitment in advancing the interests of the people of Gauteng.
“We reaffirm our confidence in the able leadership of Premier David Makhura as the head of the Gauteng Provincial Government. Throughout his term as the head of Gauteng Provincial Government Premier David Makhura has shown unwavering commitment in advancing the interests of the people of Gauteng, by leading a responsive and activist government which is unapologetic about the fight against graft and corruption.”
“The ANC Caucus will not be pandering to the hypocritical whims of the racist DA and their poster boy of corruption who want to co-govern with the popularly elected government through frivolous motions,“ Khumalo said.
“Instead of working hand in glove with the provincial government in saving the lives of our people which are everyday threatened by a ruthless and invincible virus the DA is trying to seek attention and popularity through frivolous motions which it knows very well that it won’t see the light of day.”
Khumalo further called on the people of Gauteng to give support on the tribunal as it is a necessary tool to enhance accountability and transparency.
“The DA, in their typical populist rhetoric sought to pre-empt the judicial process by filing a motion of no confidence against Premier David Makhura while the matter was still under review. We further reaffirm our confidence in the Tribunal and further call on the people of Gauteng to support its work as a necessary tool to enhance accountability and transparency.”
Khumalo went on to say that the premier has nothing to hide as he is helping the tribunal.
“We welcome the transparency of Premier David Makhura who brought an application before the Special Tribunal to correct an erroneously written judgment on the alleged involvement of the Premier in the PPE procurement irregularities. This shows that the premier has nothing to hide and is assisting the work of the Tribunal.”
“We welcome Judge Motlhe’s Special Tribunal judgment handed down on the 01 February 2021 which corrected the previous judgment and clearly states that no allegations were made against Premier David Makhura in PPE procurement irregularities. We however call for a speedily conclusion of all investigations so that those involved must be brought to justice” said Khumalo.
Khumalo emphasized that a united ANC Caucus will close ranks in defense of a towering Premier whose track record speaks volumes on the success of his administration since 2014 and that they will defeat this ill-conceived motion.
