Zimbabwe Transport Minister Joel Biggie Matiza Dies, The Fourth In A Week

Pretoria – Zimbabwe Transport And Infrastructural Development Minister Joel Biggie Matiza has died. Matiza died of Covid-19 related complications. He was 65.

Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana told an online tabloid on Friday evening ZimLive that the Transport Minister has died. The statement said Matiza has died of respiratory illness.

“Transport Minister Joel Biggie Matiza has died from Covid-19. Matiza was hospitalized last week and he becomes the 4th minister to succumb to the respiratory iilness,” Mangwana said.

Matiza’s death brings to four the total number of ministers who have died in a space of one week. Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba who was a minister in one of Zimbabwe’s provinces was the first to succumb to Covid3. She was followed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Dr Sibusiso Moyo. Early Thursday former Education Minister Aenias Chigwedere also succumbed to Covid-19 complications.

Information from unconfirmed sources says that other top government officials and ministers are hospitalized at different hospitals in Zimbabwe due to Covid-19.
