300 nabbed in North West during festive season operations

POTCHEFSTROOM – Law enforcement agents in North West Province have arrested a total of 305 suspects for different crimes during the Safer Festive Season operations.

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena said, “176 suspects were apprehended for failure to confine to their residence, 83 were nabbed for not wearing masks, 6 for sale and dispensing of liquor, two for transportation of liquor and three for drinking liquor in public.”

Kwena added that 35 other suspects were nabbed for crimes ranging from assault, robbery, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, driving under the influence of liquor, burglary and theft. The operations also led to confiscation of liquor, firecrackers, drugs, a firearm and ammunition.

Kwena commended all law enforcement officials for their commitment and positive response to the call of ensuring the wellbeing of the community by putting behind bars those who transgress the law. He pointed out that the operations will continue to tighten the grip on crime.
