Pretoria – The Facebook owned popular messaging app WhatsApp has announced that the new WhatsApp update will prevent the app from working on millions of phones from 1 January 2021 that are running older operating systems.

WhatsApp will not be available on devices that are running iOS 9 or older as well as Android 4.0.3 or older operating systems (OS) starting January 2021.

For users to circumvent this depreciation they either have to upgrade their smartphone phones’ OS or acquire new gadgets supported.

WhatsApp ends support for older iOS and Android smartphones at the end of each calendar year. Last year, WhatsApp ended support for smartphones running on iOS 8 or older, and Android phones running on version 2.3.7 or older.
