LILONGWE – Malawian Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako has confirmed in a live feed on Newzroom Afrika that the fugitives Shepherd Bushiri and his wife have handed themselves over to the Malawian Police this morning.

The couple had escaped to Malawi citing distrust in the justice system of South Africa among other things.

Bushiri, in response to a briefing by Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi said, “This internal process is already prejudged by the Minister before I submit my representations on why our permits should not be revoked because we did nothing wrong.”

The Hawks have issued a second warrant of arrest and it is believed that the Interpol also issued an international warrant of arrest.

The couple face charges of fraud and money-laundering and South Africa has initiated legal proceedings to secure the extradition of the couple.
