FREE STATE – African National Congress ANC pro Ace Magashule supporters gathered outside the Bloemfontein Magistrates court.
Some of the disgruntled supporters burnt t-shirts bearing the face of current ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa.
ANC top brass outside the magistrates court included former finance minister Malusi Gigaba, Tony Yengeni, former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo and Bongo. MKMVA spokesman Carl Neihaus was also present.
Yengeni said “no-one can stop me from supporting Magashule” in an interview with the SABC outside the court buildings.
Yengeni also expressed dismay that the ANC leaders were barred from entering the court.
“We have permits to be here, now we are told that initially 20 people were allowed to be in the court, then it was 15 now we are told only 5 are going to be allowed. That is unacceptable.”
Gigaba said, “our support for him is emphasizing the unity of the ANC what ever happens here and after the unity of the ANC must remain.”
However there was a scuffle at the court house which saw Supra, Neihaus and other ANC members being thrown out of the court yard by members of the police force.
Magashule who was premier of Free State in 2014 is facing charges of corruption related to the R255 million Free State asbestos project.
Seven other businessmen have been implicated in the Free State asbestos project.
Magashule, 61, handed himself in to authorities on Friday.
