EASTERN CAPE – Two women, Yamnkela Nkote (21) and Beauty Shonnei Simoto (30) were denied bail after briefly appearing in the Cala Magistrate court on Monday for alleged child trafficking and kidnapping.

Both suspects were remanded in custody and will appear again in court on 2 November 2020.

HAWKS said Nkote gave birth on 10 October this year and handed over the baby to Simoto without the father’s consent.

It is reported the father enquired about his child’s whereabouts and Nkote claimed that the infant had passed on but was unable to point out the grave.

In a statement issued by HAWKS, Nkote later admitted that she gave the baby to a lady in Johannesburg for a fee.

This led to investigations and the infant was traced and found in Kempton Park by the Eastern Cape Serious Organised Crime Investigation team. The child was reunited with the father.
