PORT ELIZABETH – A taxi driver in Nelson Mandela Bay has been found guilty of raping his 14-year-old passenger in front of her two younger siblings.
Mongameli Jojo, 34, will be sentenced in November.
On 24 March 2016 at around 2pm, the teenage girl and her siblings, who were three and four years old at the time took a taxi to their grandmother’s home in Port Elizabeth.
The court heard Jojo took the children to a cemetery instead of their preferred destination, where he raped the young girl in the vehicle in front of her two siblings who cried helplessly during the ordeal.
Jojo also robbed the girl of her sneakers and threatened to shoot her, although he didn’t produce a firearm.
After the incident he later dropped them off at their grandmother’s house.
The case was postponed to 26 November 2020 for the pre-sentence report and the victim impact statement ahead of sentencing.
Jojo has been in police custody since March 2016 when he was arrested.
