Alleged explosive suppliers to appear in Roodepoort Magistrates Court

Parktown – Two people are expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Wednesday. The accused face charges ranging from possession of, and dealing in explosives; and being in the country illegally.

Brigadier Mathapelo Peters SAPS Gauteng spokesperson said the two were arrested for allegedly supplying explosives that are commonly used in ATM bombings, robberies and illicit mining.

The arrest comes after an intelligence-driven operation by National Crime Intelligence and Gauteng Organised Crime Detectives on Monday in Roodepoort.

Peters said “the team proceeded to Roodepoort Park next to Marvericks Sports Club were the suspects where. When officers searched the suspects’ vehicle they found 39 explosive gels with igniting cables commonly utilised for illegal mining, ATM and CIT bombings”

Peters added “Police also seized the suspects’ vehicle”

Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela welcomed the arrest by commending the team for their efforts in dealing with often violent crimes of hijackings, house and business robberies, illegal mining, ATM and CIT bombings that continue to instil fear in our communities.
