Woman claiming to be Mabuza’s niece sentenced.

PRETORIA – Nomfundo Petronella Sambo, (32) was sentenced to seven years direct imprisonment after she pleaded guilty. Sambo appeared at the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday. Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation welcomed the sentence.

“The charges against Sambo included concealing her real identity and using the pseudo name of “Thandeka Mabuza” and masquerading as the Deputy President’s niece, for which she was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment without an option of a fine” said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, Hawks spokesperson.

“The court also found Sambo guilty of opening a false kidnapping, theft and robbery report at Low’s Creek SAP. In the report Sambo claimed she lost a work laptop and R4 000 in cash. She was sentenced to seven years imprisonment without option of a fine for this crime”.

Sambo was handed a further six years imprisonment for fraudulently purchasing furniture valued at of R28000 at Russells, Hazeview

Mulaudzi said Sambo made false allegations that Deputy President David Mabuza was, conspiring to murder an ecotourism business person in Novermber 2018. The Hawks investigation unit later established that Mabuza was not in the country at the time of the offence.
