Phuthaditjhaba – The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) on Saturday said it is investigating a shooting incident which occurred in the early morning hours of 20 September in Qwaqwa, Free State province.
“According to the preliminary investigation conducted by Ipid, the person that was allegedly shot by the police officer attacked the police officers with a knife whilst the law enforcement officers were attending to a complaint of a male that took car keys and locked the car not belonging to him,” said Ipid spokesperson Ndileka Cola.
She said the “victim” was injured and hospitalized at the Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Hospital in Phuthaditjhaba. He was later transferred to the Pelonomi Hospital in Bleomfontein on Wednesday for further treatment.
“The investigation into this matter continues,” said Cola.
