HAMMANSKRAAL – Five suspects arrested in connection with the 2018 murder of SAPS VIP Protection sergeant Thomas Mashimbye on Monday appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court, north of Pretoria.
The five were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning at Mogogelo, Winterveldt and Soshanguve East by the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS) and other law enforcement agencies.
Regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Henry Mamothame said the five face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
“Mashimbye was allegedly attacked by three armed assailants while asleep at his home with his wife and two children. He died on the scene after he was shot several times. The wife and children were not harmed,” said Mamothame.
He said the assailants stole some household items, and money, before fleeing the scene.
The matter was postponed to October 17.
